Direct Payments are cash payments from your local authority that allow you to arrange and manage your own care and support instead of having services arranged for you. They're designed to give you more choice, flexibility, and control over how your needs are met.

  • You have been assessed as eligible for social care support under the Care Act 2014
  • You are aged 16 or over
  • You are willing and able to manage the payment (with support if needed)
  • You are a carer with eligible support needs

  • Alcohol, gambling, or debt payments
  • Long-term residential care (except short stays)
  • Anything not agreed in your care and support plan

  • Manage – You arrange support, keep receipts, and report spending as required
